Voluntary Product Recall Notice on Ruffwear Leads with Crux Clip™️ Hardware
Bend, Oregon (March 18, 2021) Ruffwear is voluntarily issuing a recall on leads with Crux Clip™️ hardware.
We’ve received some reports where the Crux Clip hardware unclips during use. This can happen when the clip twists and the lead connection point on a harness or collar leverages the wire gate open, resulting in the dog no longer being connected to the lead.
The following leads are included in this recall:
- Front Range™ Lead
- Ridgeline™ Lead
- Double Track™ Coupler
- Quick Draw™ Lead
- Switchbak™ Lead
- Omnijore™ System
- Omnijore™ Towline
- Trail Runner™ System
To participate in the recall, fill out the form below. Please include a photo of the Crux Clip cut off of your lead to prevent further use. Once your recall has been processed, we’ll send you a ruffwear.com e-gift card for the purchase price of your lead.

What should I do if I purchased my lead with a Crux Clip from a retailer other than ruffwear.com?
The process is the same for leads purchased online, from retailers, or directly from Ruffwear. Please follow the recall process: fill out the recall form, including a photo of the Crux Clip cut off of your lead to prevent further use. Once your recall has been processed, we’ll send you a ruffwear.com e-gift card for the purchase price of your lead.
What if I have more than one lead with a Crux Clip?
You will need to fill out a separate recall form for each lead you have with a Crux Clip.
I haven’t had any problems with my lead that has a Crux Clip. Can I continue to use it?
We recommend you follow the recall process: fill out the recall form, including a photo of the Crux Clip cut off of your lead to prevent further use. Once your recall has been processed, we’ll send you a ruffwear.com e-gift card for the purchase price of your lead.
What if my lead has a different clip?
If your lead has a different clip (like the Talon Clip™ or our locking carabiner), your lead is not impacted by this recall and there is no action to take.
Can you just send me a replacement lead?
While we hope to have a new solution available for the recalled leads by Fall 2021, we don't have one at the moment. In the meantime, fill out the Recall Form and we will be happy to issue you a credit for the value of the product. We can also help recommend other leads that are currently available that will support your adventures and coordinate with your pup’s current gear.
