The Web Master™: The Ultimate Houdini Harness

The Web Master™ Harness traces its roots back to 1996. Originally a component of the Palisades™ Pack, Ruffwear founder Patrick Kruse noticed that customers were often using it as a standalone harness by simply detaching the paneers. With this information, he decided to create a separate product that stripped away the pack-specific features, creating a dedicated harness designed for comfort and control. This marked Ruffwear’s foray into the harness category, which remains a cornerstone of our collection today.

The harness was initially dubbed the "Houdini" due to its exceptional security, ideal for pups who seem to magically be able to find their way out of any harness. The Web Master™ Harness has an additional girth strap on the back that goes behind the rib cage and also has a strap in front of the chest, ultimately creating a harness that’s not going to come off of the dog. This is unlike the webbing harnesses that were common at the time and would often slip right off of eager canines.

The name "Web Master" emerged during the early days of the internet, a nod to the harness's raw, utilitarian design. Much like the early web, the harness was essentially a piece of webbing that required careful configuration. Yet, within this simplicity lay the foundation for a product that would become a must have in any dog’s gear closet.

Other key features that set the Web Master™ apart include a sturdy handle for control, a light loop for hands-free illumination, and the revolutionary V-ring. Inspired by cargo aircraft, the V-ring offers a secure and adjustable attachment point, a hardware design innovation that Ruffwear pioneered.

A hallmark of the Web Master™ is its exceptional fit. Five points of adjustment allow for precise customization, ensuring optimal comfort and security for dogs of various shapes and sizes. Strategically placed padding on the chest and belly straps further enhances wearability, making it ideal for extended wear and multi-day adventures.

The padded handle provides secure control in demanding situations, while the integrated light loop offers hands-free visibility in low light conditions. The signature V-ring, now made from durable aluminum, remains a versatile attachment point for a leash.
